What you need to know about CASCO

How does CASCO differ from MTPL?

What is CASCO?

CASCO is voluntary vehicle insurance that compensates your losses if the car is damaged, stolen, or completely destroyed. CASCO protects your own car - regardless of who was at fault in the incident.

The policy can also include various additional services, for example, glass replacement, roadside assistance, or a rental car during repairs.

How does CASCO differ from MTPL?

MTPL is mandatory civil liability insurance that covers third-party losses if you cause a road traffic accident. CASCO, on the other hand, is voluntary insurance that protects your own car - both in case of accident, as well as theft, vandalism, natural disasters, or other damage.

Compare before choosing

Each insurance company offers different CASCO coverage, especially regarding additional risks and conditions. Some policies already include, for example, glass damage or roadside assistance, while others charge extra.

That's why it's important to compare offers to choose the most suitable protection.

CASCO insurance - basic coverage

Damage

CASCO compensates for various vehicle damages resulting from road traffic accidents, hitting obstacles, rollovers, bodywork or interior damage.

Total loss

If car repair is not possible or economically justified (total loss), CASCO in this case compensates the full market value of the vehicle.

Theft

CASCO covers losses if the car is stolen or its parts are stolen (e.g., mirrors, headlights). Protection also applies in case of robbery.

CASCO deductible: how does it work?

The deductible is a policy-specified amount that the client covers themselves when an insured event occurs. Typically, the deductible is applied per insured event - the deductible is subtracted from the compensation amount (or paid by the client), and the insurer covers the remaining loss. Choosing a higher deductible can reduce the CASCO policy price, while a lower deductible means greater

When is CASCO compensation not paid?

In certain cases, CASCO insurance may not provide compensation, for example, if the vehicle was damaged as a result of deliberate actions or if policy conditions were not met. To avoid misunderstandings, it is important to familiarise yourself with the insurance terms and choose suitable coverage for your car.

What does CASCO cover?

Basic CASCO coverage

Frequently asked questions

What is a CASCO deductible?

The CASCO deductible is the amount you cover out of your own pocket when an insured event occurs and a claim is filed. The insurer pays the rest. When choosing a policy, you determine the deductible amount yourself - the smaller it is, the higher the insurance price. Conversely, a larger deductible means a lower policy price. This allows you to tailor the policy to your financial situation.

What is the CASCO policy coverage territory?

CASCO usually operates not only in Latvia but also in other countries - most commonly throughout the Baltics (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) and the European Union.

Important: The exact territory is always specified in the policy. If you plan to drive outside Latvia, make sure the coverage extends to the chosen country.

What are the security requirements for purchasing CASCO?

For most cars, factory-installed anti-theft systems are sufficient. However, if the car is of high value or is considered a theft risk, the insurer may require additional security, for example, a satellite tracking device or additional alarm system.

Important: Requirements can always be verified before purchasing the policy.

When can a claim be denied?

When choosing CASCO, it's important to know that there are cases when compensation may not be paid. Most commonly, this occurs if the car was driven under the influence of alcohol, required anti-theft devices were not installed, or the car was used improperly, for example, for commercial purposes.

Coverage does not apply to losses that occurred before the policy was purchased or during competitions.

Does CASCO cover damage from natural disasters?

Yes, CASCO can cover damage caused by hail, storms, floods, or other natural disasters if provided for in the policy.

Is CASCO mandatory?

No, CASCO is voluntary insurance, but it provides broader protection than MTPL.

Does CASCO cover damage when the culprit is unknown?

Yes, CASCO can cover damage even when the responsible person cannot be identified, if provided for in the policy terms.
