Parties involved in a traffic accident must fill in an accident report. Learn how to fill it in correctly.
About the accident reportPhotograph the damage or situation, note the date, time and location. In a car accident, fill in the accident report. In an apartment or house, do not touch anything until the expert arrives. While travelling, call the assistance number from your policy.
Report the incident to your insurer by phone, email or online. Above you will find the contact details for each insurer.
OCTA: accident report or police protocol. Apartment: photographs, inspection report. Travel: medical receipts, invoices. Bicycle: police report for theft. For each case you need the policy number.
You can submit a claim on the insurer's website online, by email or in person at a client center. Most insurers also accept claims through their mobile apps.
The insurer reviews the claim and makes a decision. For OCTA and KASKO, compensation may be a cash payment or repairs at a service center. For travel and health insurance, compensation is transferred to a bank account.
For OCTA, the accident report must be submitted within 10 days. The sooner you file, the sooner you receive compensation.
Make sure you have the policy number, description of the event, photographs and, if necessary, a police report.
The insurer usually reviews a claim within 10 to 30 days. In complex cases, the period may be longer.

If you are involved in a traffic accident, first make sure everyone is safe. Turn on your hazard lights and place a warning triangle. If there are no injuries and both drivers agree on the circumstances, fill in the accident report. Photograph the damage to both vehicles from several angles, as well as the accident scene, road conditions and signs. The accident report must be submitted to the insurer within 10 days. If there are injuries or a dispute about fault, call the police and wait for the protocol. The OCTA policy covers the other party's losses, while your own damage should be claimed from your vehicle's OCTA insurer.
Flooding, fire, storm or theft can cause serious damage to your property. The first step is to document the situation with photos and video before touching or repairing anything. If the cause is a water leak from neighbours, try to stop it and document the source. In case of fire, wait for the firefighters' report. In case of theft, call the police immediately and get a protocol. Contact your insurer and file a claim. Do not change or repair anything until the insurer's expert has inspected the damage. Usually the expert arrives within 1 to 3 working days.
If you fall ill or have an accident while travelling abroad, the first step is to call the assistance number listed in your travel insurance policy. The assistance company will organise medical help and direct you to the nearest clinic. Important: keep all medical receipts, medication invoices and transport expenses. Without receipts, the insurer cannot reimburse expenses. If a trip is cancelled or luggage is lost, keep the airline confirmation or lost baggage report. After returning, submit all documents to the insurer, usually within 30 days.
If your bicycle is stolen, immediately file a police report and get a registration number. You will also need the purchase receipt or invoice as proof of value. If the bicycle is damaged in an accident or vandalism, photograph the damage from several angles and keep any evidence (e.g. a broken lock). Contact your insurer and submit a claim together with the police report, photos and proof of purchase. The insurer will assess the damage and decide on compensation. If the bicycle has KASKO-type insurance, compensation usually covers repair or replacement.
