Frequently Asked Questions

Electric scooter insurance - who can operate an electric scooter?

According to the Road Traffic Law, an electric scooter may be operated by one person from the age of 14. If the rider is a minor, a bicycle licence is mandatory. The maximum permitted speed is 25 km/h, and the same fines apply for violations as for cyclists

Is the technical condition of the electric scooter important?

Yes, the electric scooter must be in proper technical condition: mandatorily equipped with brakes, a white light at the front, and a red light at the rear. The rider is recommended to wear a reflective vest. While riding, it is prohibited to release the handlebars, carry passengers, hold onto other vehicles, or transport dangerous goods.

Where can you ride an electric scooter?

Electric scooter riders may ride on pavements, cycle paths, carriageways (where permitted), as well as public transport lanes if permitted for cyclists. On the pavement, pedestrians always have priority, and speed must match their pace. On the carriageway, riding is only permitted where the speed limit does not exceed 50 km/h.

What should you pay attention to when riding an electric scooter?

Electric scooter riders and other road users must observe mutual respect. Vehicle drivers must ensure their actions do not endanger electric scooter users, while riders themselves must follow traffic rules and ensure visibility and predictability on the road
